Animal Testing (Cosmetics)

I would like to reassure you that there has been no change in legislation and that the ban on using animals for the testing of finished cosmetic products remains in force.

Under UK regulations to protect the environment and the safety of workers, I understand that animal testing can be permitted, where required by UK regulators, on single or multiuse ingredients but such testing can only be conducted where there are no non-animal alternatives. I have written to the Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, to share your views and to press for any action the Government can take.

The Home Office has said that it will clarify its position with the formal publication of an updated policy and regulatory guidance on the regulation of animal testing. This is very welcome and will ensure the UK's approach to animal testing is transparent.
