Residents across the Chichester District have taken to social media to show overwhelming support for the council’s Waste Collection team.
The council’s waste service has been running as normal despite the challenging circumstances. Hundreds of residents who wanted to thank the team for their hard work were asked to send their messages through on the council’s social media channels.
These messages were then sent directly to the crew to their cabs to boost morale.
In total, posts about our Waste Collection team received over 600 likes or heart reactions, and over 240 comments praising the team’s efforts.
Cllr Penny Plant, Cabinet Member for Environment and Chichester Contract Services at Chichester District Council said: “We are absolutely thrilled that the hard work of our Waste Collection team has been noticed by residents across the district on social media.
“We had so many kind people coming out to thank the crew, that we wanted to find a way for people to show their appreciation without having to leave their homes.
“We are operating in extremely difficult circumstances, but the resilience of the team has been absolutely fantastic.
“Our Waste Collection team has been affected by staff shortages as a result of the outbreak, and so a number of council colleagues have been redeployed to support this service. This shows how everyone is working together to ensure our critical services can continue to be delivered during these challenging times.
“We have been working hard to ensure that the service continues to run as normal, although a small number of recycling rounds were missed last week. We want to reassure you that we are already catching up on any bins that were missed.
“I know the team have really appreciated your messages of support, so please do continue to send these through on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
Messages of support to the team include:
“Thank you so much for your commitment during such difficult times. You are all brilliant.”
“Well done guys, you always provide a brilliant service anyway but hand up to you all, well done and thank you.”
“Love to the crew that looks after us in Woodmancote. You are always fab and go above and beyond. Thank you so much.”
“Thanks to your team of operatives both collectors and street sweepers. Be safe and stay well.”
“Thank you for all you do all year round, but especially when the world is a little crazy! Will disinfect the bin ready for my collection next Thursday!”
