Improving the Environment for Everyone

Gillian is passionate about the natural environment and has been working to promote change on a local, national and global scale.

Locally Gillian has been working with the local authorities, organisations and businesses to keep the Chichester area beautiful for future generations. Gillian is supporting the Against Litter campaign launched by the Chichester District Council to tackle issues around littering, dog fouling and fly tipping in the area. As part of this the Chichester MP has 'adopted an area' outside her constituency office in St John's Street Chichester.

In Parliament Gillian is working to promote the environmental agenda through debates and meetings. She has also taken part in campaigns such as the #GiveUpPlasticsForLent campaign where she and several Conservative colleagues pledged to reduce their use of single plastics for the 40 days and nights over lent. The aim of the campaign was to reduce her own environmental impact but also raise awareness of the issue nationally.

Gillian is the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for UN Sustainable Goals, where MPs from all parties work towards 17 international goals, many of which work to improve the global environment:

Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources

Goal 15: Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, halt biodiversity loss
