As part of the latest Chichester Water Conference on 22nd March 2024, Gillian announced Chichester's Plan for Water.
Chichester’s Plan for Water draws on the years of work undertaken by Gillian as the Member of Parliament for Chichester and others in the constituency to end sewage outflows for good.
The Plan details significant new funding promised by Southern Water in their latest business plan which, subject to the approval of regulators, will transform water treatment in Chichester over the next five years. Southern Water’s business plan allocates over £56 million to the following communities:
- Thornham - £30 million – this will be used to create a new UV water treatment facility
- Chichester - £16 million
- Lavant - £8 million
- Bosham - £1.4 million
- Sidlesham - £500,000
- Pagham - £500,000
Launching the plan, Gillian said
Since being elected as the Member of Parliament for Chichester, sewage and water quality have been some of the most common issues to cross my desk, and my position has always been clear: The dumping of sewage in our harbour and waterways is completely unacceptable.
I'm delighted to be launching this plan today. I hope it will help constituents to understand where we are, and more importantly what we are doing to bring an end to sewage discharges.
The huge investment from Southern Water, which is detailed in the plan, is a result of the long-term campaign I and others in our area have led to clean up our waterways, including the beautiful Chichester Harbour, and to hold Southern to account.
Of course there's still more to do and I will continue to push for consistent and strong action to stop sewage outflows in our constituency for good.
