Following the crunch Cabinet meeting at Chequers we now have the publication of the white paper on the future relationship between the UK and the EU. It takes a while to plough through as its 98 pages long... what else are weekends for!
Last week across the country we celebrated the 70th birthday of our National Health Service. As part of the festivities I went to our local hospital St Richard’s to meet with staff, and serve tea and cake to patients in the Middleton Ward and Howard Ward.
Across the country, groups have been taking part in EqualiTeas events which are get togethers to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of women gaining the vote for the first time and the opportunity to get elected to Parliament.
In Parliament this week we made an important decision to increase the UK’s airport capacity by adding a third runway at Heathrow. The need to take action is clear as Heathrow has already reached 99% operational capacity, and is the busiest airport in Europe and 7th busiest in the world.
In Parliament I got the opportunity to meet with the Chairman of House of Fraser, Frank Slevin, to find out some background about why the Chichester store had been selected for closure particularly after being refurbished in 2016.
Last week we welcomed the official opening of the Chichester Enterprise Centre. This modern, flexible business centre aims to create new jobs in Chichester by encouraging start-up, micro, small and medium sized businesses to set up and be able to expand within the district.
Whilst we are very lucky to have an excellent NHS hospital nearby in St Richard’s, many are aware of the increasing pressure our NHS faces as it deals with ever increasing number of patients and more elderly patients with complex needs.
