Tackling Climate Change

Gillian is passionate about the environment and tackling climate change. As the MP for Chichester she has been working to promote change on a local, national and global scale.

Locally Gillian has been working with the authorities, organisations, campaign groups and businesses to work on getting the UK carbon neutral by 2050. In Parliament Gillian is working to promote the environmental agenda through debates, meetings and lobbying campaigns.

The Chichester MP is also a member of the Conservative Environment Network; a forum for conservatives who support conservation and decarbonisation.

Gillian is the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for UN Sustainable Goals, where MPs from all parties work towards 17 international goals, many of which work to improve the global environment:

Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources

Goal 15: Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, halt biodiversity loss

Council declares a climate emergency

Chichester District Council’s Cabinet declared a climate emergency at its meeting on 9 July.

The council’s Environment Panel will now work on developing a detailed action plan to address climate change and consider options for funding a Climate Emergency Officer.

Chichester MP meets with Eco-Worriers

After receiving a stack of climate change letters from year 5’s at Southbourne Junior School Gillian Keegan MP went to visit them (Friday 7th June).

The protest that came to Parliament

Gillian Keegan MP met with members of the Extinction Rebellion group in Parliament. The Chichester MP asked to address the group to discuss their movement. Gillian spent over an hour hearing and debating almost 50 of the protestors who were present.

Questions to the Department for Exiting the European Union

Gillian Keegan: Extreme weather events have cost the global economy more than half a trillion pounds over the past few years, and the scientific consensus is that, unless we halve our greenhouse ​gas emissions, such events will only become more frequent.

Chichester MP, Gillian Keegan has joined Conservative colleagues from across the UK in pledging to Give Up Plastic for Lent. The parliamentarians have each agreed to take part in different challenges to reduce their own use of plastics during the 40 days in the run up to Easter.
